First Things

The site you're using right now is called Confluence. It is created by Atlassian and facilitates wiki-style collaboration; it's the documentation tool of choice at Solü. A key feature of Confluence is its tight integration with JIRA, another Atlassian product that we use to track tasks and defects. You may have used similar products like Rally, Rational Team Concert, Redmine or even Bugzilla. Because of its versatility and the rich ecosystem that the Atlassian suite provides, we use JIRA for more than just bug fixes. We've built a full training program within JIRA, including tasks tailored to getting you up and running on day one. Let's get started.

Logging in to GMail

Your e-mail, which will take the format <first-initial><last-name>@solutechnology.com is accessible either through Microsoft Outlook or GMail; here we'll log in through GMail. If you navigate to the standard GMail login page (https://www.gmail.com) you will be able to reach your Solü inbox by supplying your full username (with @solutechnology.com suffix) and the default password, NewPassword1. You should be presented with your Solü mail account - update your password and continue on.

Logging in to JIRA

Next we'll log in to JIRA to locate your own personal set of training tasks. In your inbox, you should have already received an e-mail notification from jira@solutechnology.atlassian.net with a subject like [Atlassian] <name>, welcome to Atlassian OnDemand. The e-mail should include your username (which should match that of your email address) and a link to set your initial password, like the sample below:

Follow the link and create your password. You're in.

Finding Your Training

Just as your JIRA account should be ready and waiting for you, so too should your onboarding and training tasks. To find the Epic (a large unit of work in Agile methodologies) assigned to you, we've embedded a query in this page that adjusts according to the current user login. Your personal training Epic, named after you, should appear below:

Jira Legacy
serverJIRA (solutechnology.atlassian.net)
jqlQueryfilter=10600
serverId2f74bb3a-0572-37b6-829c-7795574f7615

Didn't we say the integration was great? Go ahead and open the linked issue above - included there will be a list of subordinate issues labeled Issues In Epic - they represent all of the training activities you'll complete during your onboarding.

Info

JIRA includes a powerful, proprietary query language to search for issues called JQL. The JQL query utilized to locate your epic is as follows: project = Onboarding AND issuetype = Epic AND assignee = currentUser()

Now that you've located your training, consider the Epic your home base. You'll work through each issue from the top of the list, one-by-one, down to the bottom. From this point on, the tasks within each issue should direct your progress.

Next Steps

It's likely the onboarding and training material will keep you busy for a while - there are suggested timings associated with each activity, but go at your own pace. As an example, if you're already a pro at Java, you can probably breeze right through "Java Essentials" training, but you may be rusty with JavaScript - use the extra time you cut out to get a better understanding for front-end technologies like AngularJS.
